Sleep With Me Hotel review.
In my previous blog post, I mentioned that its the June Holidays ~
It is and still is ;u ;
For this June Holidays, I flew to Phuket via Jetstar.
The hotel I stayed in during my trip was - Sleep With Me Hotel.
The hotel is located at:
The location of the hotel is good because its near Jungcelyon Shopping Mall.
However, the staff and service provided by the hotel was bad.
Really, Really Bad.
As google mentioned, it's a 4-star hotel.
I personally felt that with the staff and service the hotel provided, it was no more than a 2 star hotel.
If you're telling me this is the kind of staff and service from a 4 star hotel,
then can I say that Amari is a 6 star hotel?
Just look at the reviews I found on google.
And the following is my review from my 3 night stay in the hotel.
Basically its just a design hotel.
- Nice hotel; interior design is nice, room facilities is average.
- Ill mannered staffs ; rude and biased ( towards darker skinned/yellow skinned people)
- Dirty swimming pool
- Money-minded
We booked our stay directly with the hotel a few weeks beforehand.
After booking, my parents went and emailed the manager regarding the several needs that we had for our stay.
We booked a suite and 2 normal rooms - 3 rooms in total.
My parents requested for our rooms to be at block A since thats where the rooftop swimming pool was located at and that the 2 normal rooms are to be on the same floor, side by side or opposite each other since there were kids with us.
They told the manager that if we could have connecting rooms, it would be the best but as long as the 2 normal rooms are on the same floors, its good enough.
Another thing they requested was for early check-in since we would be arriving in the morning as we were taking the morning flight.
So what my parents requested was:
1. All 3 rooms to be in block A.
2. The 2 normal rooms to be on the same floor, side by side or opposite each other.
3. Early check-in.
Thats not a lot right?
The manager replied my parents email and told them that the hotel staff will adhere to all our requests.
Confirmed the room details stating that we will be in block A , 2 normal rooms will be connected and we will be allowed to check in early.
Furthermore, the manager told my parents in the email saying that they will provide us with unlimited free wifi since we have kids staying with us.
Everything looks good so we were all very excited to be travelling to Phuket in a few weeks time.
A few days before that, my parents emailed the manager asking for transport from the airport to the hotel. The manager told us that they could arrange for transport but we had to pay them 1500 baht
( SGD60 ) first which was totally acceptable.
My parents paid the hotel for the transport.
On the day itself when we arrived, it was raining.
The worse thing was the driver took his own sweet time to drive the van from the car park of the airport to us.
That's okay since it was raining. Can't blame him.
When we got to the hotel, we were told by the receptionist that we could not check in early.
My parents were surprised because the hotel's manager told us that we could.
The receptionist said that it was their hotel's policy and check in is only after 12pm
( or some other time. I forgot )
Well. fine then.
Next, my parents inquired about where our rooms would be located at.
Which block and which floor.
The receptionist told my parents that we will be in Block B.
The suite room will be on the 6th floor, 1 normal room on the 5th and the other on the 4th.
If you're wondering whether the stuffed sheep on the bed and the bedside table comes with the room and is free of charge,
No. It's not.
Below is a list of how much the items cost.
It's in chinese but I'll try my best to translate it.
The suite room will be on the 6th floor, 1 normal room on the 5th and the other on the 4th.
First your manager allowed us to check in early but we can't.
Now you're telling me that all 3 rooms are on 3 different levels when your manager has already confirmed that the 2 normal will be on the same floor.
And you're also telling me that the rooms are located at Block B when your manager confirmed that its at Block A?
My parents were starting to get mad.
They told the receptionist what the manager arranged for them and she said that she will try to find normal rooms on the same floor in Block A for us.
She did. however, the occupants has not checked out yet so she reserved the room for us in their system and then told us to come back after lunch.
Okay fine. This arrangement was better than the previous one.
It was still raining at that time so we asked if we could borrow 3 umbrellas from the hotel.
We could. At 500 baht (SGD20) per umbrella c:
Amari Watergate Bangkok doesn't even charge me for borrowing their umbrellas.
And Amari Watergate Bangkok is a 5 star hotel.
This is an example of how money minded they are ^_^
Okay so after lunch, we walked back to be surprised again.
This time round, she told us that the occupants of the 2 normal rooms have just extended their stay.
Okayyy.. so what the heck does this have anything to do with me?
So they moved us to Block B
Now, my parents are starting to get very angry.
After that, you're telling me that the occupants staying in the room you gave us just extended their stay??? even after you've confirmed our rooms???
They told us that the hotel was fully booked already so they could only give us the rooms in Block B.
Okay fine. No choice.
My parents accepted Block B.
Our new rooms were located at Level 6 and Level 4.
After all the admin work, we were told to pay deposit of..
Guess What??
3000 baht (SGD120) per room.
We booked 3 rooms so the total came up to SGD360.
Plus we have already paid the full amount via credit card when we booked.
This is getting ridiculous..
When we stayed in Amari Watergate Bangkok, a 5 star hotel,
3 months back, the deposit wasn't even 3000 baht.
It was definitely lesser.
You're telling me your bullshit "4 star" hotel needs me to pay deposit of 3000 baht per room?
Another example of how money minded they are ^.^
Now, my parents were starting to get annoyed.
They decided to pay with their credit card.
But the hotel's credit card system was down that day.
The receptionist told my parents to pay in cash instead.
Whats the point of us paying the 3000 baht deposit in cash and then changing more money to spend when we're going to get the deposit back?
It simply made no sense to pay cash.
My parents told the receptionist that they are not carrying large sums of cash with them.
The receptionist started lowering the price.
5000 baht for all 3 rooms.
They were not willing to pay via cash because it was illogical to.
So they said they don't have so much cash with them.
Then they lowered the price again.
3000 baht for 3 rooms.
That was when my parents blew up.
We are not beggars here who cannot pay the deposit.
We just don't want to pay with cash because it was illogical to do so.
We have the credit card to make the deposit. Heck we even paid for the rooms in full already.
But the hotel's credit card system was down. Doesn't concern us.
They straight away told the receptionist we wanted to cancel our rooms because it was getting ridiculous.
Everything the manager we emailed promised us when we booked, weren't even adhered to.
But they refused to let us cancel.
Why?
Because if we cancel, they have to explain to their manager.
My parents wanted to speak to the manager but was told by the receptionist that the manager is currently off duty.
So my parents asked to see the person in charge.
But they told us that the only people they can talk to is the people at the hotel lobby.
The bell boy and the guy working at the concierge table walked over to us and wanted to settle the problem.
Hold on a minute.
You're telling me that, a "4 star" hotel doesn't have a manager on duty?
Even budget hotels have manager on duty.
And you're telling me a bell boy and a guy working at the concierge table can just butt in and settle the problems???
Are you sure you really are a 4 star hotel?????
In the end, they told us to go to our rooms first and they'll call us to pay the deposit once they fixed the system.
You think this is the end of my family's horrible experience there?
Guess Again.
Since the 2 normal rooms weren't cleaned yet, we went up to the suite room first.
The suite room has a Jacuzzi tub outside on the balcony.
Cool right?
Nope. Not if it has brownish, rusty colored looking water coming out of the tap.
Now, I know Phuket's water is not as clear as Singapore's or even Bangkok's
But look at the images I took below and judge for yourselves.
Just look at how dirty is looks.
As you sure its clean enough to play in or even be used to rinse my mouth after brushing my teeth?
My parents called the hotel lobby to send someone up to check on the water.
They sent someone up to check.
After 30 minutes of checking, the water was still brown but it was becoming a lighter shade of brown.
We were told by the receptionist that the other 2 rooms on level 4 were ready for us.
We went to our rooms in level 4 to check them out.
BUT.
We couldn't enter the room because the card could not be used.
We even used both cards we were given, 10 times for each room.
Still can't enter.
So what did we do?
We went to the lobby to inform the receptionist about the cards and water issue
The receptionist told us she would settle it for us and bring it up to our rooms later on.
We went back to our room angry and annoyed.
30 minutes later, the receptionist came up to our room.
She told us that the hotel has decided to upgrade the 2 normal rooms to
deluxe rooms on the same level as the suite room. ( the best rooms in the whole hotel ).
She then told us that as for the water issue, we should let the water run until it turns clear.
No choice. We let the water run for the next hour or so while we moved to the other rooms.
That wasn't the end of my family's horrible experience.
My room was just beside my parents. I got to my room, turned on the air con to 18 degrees to cool up the room while I unpacked.
After unpacking, I changed and went over to my parents room and stayed there for the next hour.
When I came back to my own room afterwards, the room's temperature was as high as Phuket's temperate..
HOT AF.
And the sliding door to the balcony is closed.
Why I say this is because,
The air con is connected to the balcony doors. If the balcony door is opened for a period of time, the air con automatically switches off.
No choice. I called up the receptionist.
They sent their engineers to check the air con and turns out, it was spoiled.
The hotel management moved us to another room, AGAIN.
I've switched rooms 3 times and it hadn't passed a day yet.
I switched to another deluxe room on the same level as my parents.
Just 1 room away from them.
Still not the end of the horrible experience and we're still on the rooms section..
See how bad the hotel is already?
After moving to the new room and settling down, we found out that we needed to pay to upgrade our wifi speed.
Keyword: Wifi Speed
Heck. Even Amari Watergate Bangkok doesn't make my family pay to upgrade the wifi speed.
We only pay to allow more connections for a room since we could only connect 2 devices to the wifi per room.
Another example of how money minded Sleep With Me Hotel is :>
The deluxe room were really just meh.
If you're wondering whether the stuffed sheep on the bed and the bedside table comes with the room and is free of charge,
No. It's not.
Below is a list of how much the items cost.
It's in chinese but I'll try my best to translate it.
- Red Towel ( Beach Towel ??? ) : 750 baht
- Bath Towel : 500 baht
- Hand Towel : 100 baht
- Face Towel : 50 baht
- Bathroom mat (?) : 180 baht
- Big sized Sheep : 2000 baht
- Medium sized Sheep : 1800 baht
- Mini sized Sheep ( on the bed side table ) :350 baht
- Bath Robe (?) : 1000 baht
- Umbrella : 1400 baht
- Laundry Bag : 300 baht
- Mug : 200 baht
- Tea something .. ( not very sure ) : 200 baht
- Toilet's cup : 50 baht
- Hotel's Slippers : 200 baht
Ridiculous prices if you ask me ...
If you think this is the end,
think again.
Next day when we went down for breakfast in the morning, the staff seemed very unhappy to serve us.
They had a very annoyed face when they saw us ( yellow skinned and darker skinned people )
But they were all smiley towards the white skinned people.
Shows how biased they are c:
The variety of food they serve for breakfast was quite limited for a "4 star" hotel.
It was the same every day during my stay.
Before leaving after we ate, being the typical Singaporeans we are,
my sis took like 5 toothpicks from the table and put it in her backpack.
Upon standing up from the table, a male staff walked past us and said
"toothpick cannot take"
He even rolled his eyes at us as he walked past.
Example of an ill mannered staff.
You're a "4 star" hotel. What is 5 toothpicks to you?
Bangkok's Din Tai Fung didn't even stop us from taking some toothpicks from them.
Amari Watergate Bangkok didn't stop us either.
Restaurants in Singapore doesn't even stop us from taking toothpicks from them.
Who are you to say that we can't take toothpicks from your hotel?
It's not like I didn't pay to stay.
My sister put the toothpicks back onto the table and we left the breakfast area.
After walking around Jungcelyon, we came back in the afternoon at around 1pm to find our rooms not cleaned yet even though we left the room at 9:45 am.
Your hotel is only 7 floors high. There's only 2 blocks.
Even if I add up the floors from both blocks, its only 14 floors high.
Why can't my rooms be cleaned within 3 hours+ ?
Amari Watergate has 32 floors and each time I choose to make up my room, it is done by the time I come back in 3 hours.
Is this how a "4 star" hotel service should be like?
I highly doubt so.
But its a "4 star" hotel.
So I can't expect much either ...
Not sure if its just me but I don't think swimming pool water is supposed to taste salty? ._.
I know there its right at the rooftop so it probably contains rain water.
But the swimming pool at Amari Watergate Bangkok comes in contact with rain water as well and it doesn't taste salty ...
This led me to think that Sleep With Me Hotel doesn't disinfect the water ;-;
Gross...
And with that, it marks the end of my review.
All in all, I just want to say that this was the worse hotel I've ever stayed in and I stayed in quite a few hotels before this.
What they said about it just having design is very true.
Because other than the design, they only have :
Lousy service and Ill mannered staffs.
From my 3 nights experience, they proved to me that they are very money minded.
Everything also relate back to money...
This blog post is just about the hotel. I haven't even actually started on talking about my trip to Phuket - How much do things cost there. For example, food.
I'll talk about those in my next blog post probably next week since my holidays don't end until 10th July ~
Until then,
