#74 | Worst Resort ever? - The Charm Resort Phuket

Finally got my lazy ass up to start this review post.

Dragged it for nearly 2 months and I guess it's finally time
to share my thoughts and review on this place:

The Charm Resort, Phuket.

So why is this the WORST resorts I've ever stayed in
despite how good the resort claims to be?

If only you were there during my stay to experience the horror I went through. This trip was meant to be a holiday but it seemed like I was there to do a quality check on the resort and their staffs.

When booking, I made a note to the resort requesting for an early check-in since my flight was quite early in the morning. The staff replied saying it would depend on the availability of the rooms that day. If they had rooms available, I can check in early. If not, check in is after 2pm.

Fair Enough.

You would expect the room to be cleaned with no problems at all especially since you could only check in after 2pm. so you can rest after waking up early for the flight. But nope.

The moment I stepped into the room, I saw the problems.

There was a musty smell as soon as I entered. Probably because the room was left vacant for a long time. If that's the case, I should be allowed to check in as soon as I arrived right? In the end, I left the balcony door open to get rid of the smell. But that's not all.

I walked around to check out the other rooms. To my surprise, there was no bathtub in any of the bathrooms. The room I booked was supposed to come with a bathtub in one of the bathrooms. I even paid extra for the upgrade. I called the front desk to get the manager to come up and explain the whole situation.

The manager came up and apologized to me. She explained that the rooms with bathtubs were undergoing renovations at the moment hence, they arranged for me to be in this room instead.

What the heck?

I paid extra for the upgrade and now you're telling me that I have to stay in a lower grade room just because the other rooms are undergoing renovations and you didn't update your webpage about it? Can I consider this a scam? Not informing travelers beforehand at all. How professional. We ended up moving to another room because of how strong the smell was.

The other room wasn't any good either.

I thought it would be the end of my horrible experience but nope. It got worst at night. There were 3 power outages. The first two wasn't too bad because everything went back on immediately. The third one, however, was bad. It lasted for 5 hours from 12am to almost 5am before everything went back on. By everything, I meant everything from electricity to lights to air conditioning. So can you imagine sleeping without the aircon or lights for 5 hours? And you can't even open the balcony door to let the cool air in because mosquitoes would fly in.

Confronted the manager before breakfast the next morning and he said that the power outage was due to an accident along the roads the previous night.

Okay... But shouldn't your resort have like a backup power generator?

He apologized for it and seemed sincere so we let it go. We went out to Juncelyon after breakfast. Everything was fine for the whole day and I was hoping it would stay this way until we leave but nah.

Here's a list of some other things that happened in the room during my stay:
  1. Aircon leaking water in the master bedroom and living room
  2. Aircon broke down
  3. The filter of the aircon not cleaned = no wind coming out of the aircon
  4. 3 Power outages
  5. No bathtub even though the website clearly stated that there is
  6. Late check-in even though rooms were available
  7. Unfriendly staffs

I am not going to type too much since it's going to be a long ass post if I do that. So I'm just going to let pictures do the talking.

^ Water collected from the leaking aircon.

^ Water from the master bedroom aircon.

^ Used a empty bottle to collect the water from the master bedroom aircon.

^ Amount of water collected in less than 2 hours.

^Common Bedroom aircon filter.

We had to wash this filter ourselves because it was quite late at night and we were too tired to wait for the technician to come and wash it. When we told the manager about it, instead of thanking us, he told us that we should have called for the technician to wash it.

BY THE TIME YOUR TECHNICIAN ARRIVE AND FINISH WASHING, IT WOULD BE THE NEXT MORNING ALREADY.

I wrote a review on Tripadvisor about this resort. The manager replied to the review saying that they have already compensated us by giving us free dinner during our stay there. Yes, I am thankful for the dinners you provided. You are just showing people that "Hey! I messed up this traveler's holiday but I compensated with free dinner so it's fine"

Sorry ah. It doesn't work that way.

You think that just because you gave me a free dinner, I won't give a bad review about your hotel? Sorry, I'm not an Influenc*ers neither was this trip sponsored. It doesn't work that way. I paid for it, you gave me a bad stay, you'll get a bad review.

HIGHLY WOULDN'T RECOMMEND ANYONE TO STAY IN THIS RESORT.

EVEN SLEEP WITH ME HOTEL IS BETTER.

With that being said, I'm sure or I hope the hotel has given proper training to the staffs and technicians there. And I'm hoping they have a backup power generator installed in case of future power outages.

To recap, here's a list of some other things that happened in the room during my stay:

  1. Aircon leaking water in the master bedroom and living room
  2. Aircon broke down
  3. The filter of the aircon not cleaned = no wind coming out of the aircon
  4. 3 Power outages
  5. No bathtub even though the website clearly stated that there is
  6. Late check-in even though rooms were available
  7. Unfriendly staffs
Also, if you plan on staying here, 1 person is entitled to 1 bottle of water daily. If you need extra, you have to purchase from the resort. This is my first time seeing a resort implement this policy lmao.

IF YOU PLAN ON STAYING AT THE CHARM RESORT,

I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST.

Ending this post with photos of the room I stayed in during this trip.
